Today is a rainy day. Suddenly, fall has arrived, and with it, my urge to “put by”. Do you have this urge as winter approaches? I want to can, gather, hoard, make stews, buy bulk, get my wood on the porch, hunker down, get ready for the hardships of winter. What the heck is this urge? This isn’t frontiersville! It isn’t as though I am living in the rural wilderness out here in the burbs of Baltimore. I go through this every year. It must be genetic like the whole paper towel thing.

What do you do to get ready for winter? If you live in a mild climate do you still feel the need to prepare? Enquiring minds need to know!

  1. Hope you are feeling better :)

I have to say I don't think I have had that feeling although maybe it is the same as wanting to run away from the rain. :)

Hope you have a lovely day, T. :)

  3. I, too, am in the process of hoarding food and squirreling away items. I broke out the crock pot last week and am on the hunt for new recipes. Plantress - any you are actually willing to share with me?

  4. Perhaps it has to do with the rain? Cold rainy days make one want to cocoon, stay close to home and hearth. Also since it's preferable to stay inside we want to do indoor things as well; in your case is cook and can. That ain't all bad cause those vittles can be mighty tasty later on. :)
