The Holidays will soon be upon us. I realized this on Saturday when my new crate and barrel catalogue came as well as this month’s Wegman’s menu ideas “magazine”. The coming of Thanksgiving means it’s time for my annual email to my children asking for their gift wish lists. The rule is that if you don’t tell me what you would like then you will get socks and underwear for Christmas. Do you have a tradition? I would rather submit a long list with a wide range of choices and prices than have a completely unguided “surprise”. That’s just me though. My list starts with things like crest white strips-something I would like to try but am too frugal to buy for myself.
I think it would be fun to push the envelope this Thanksgiving by changing our traditional menu a little. I suggested we get duck from the local Chinese restaurant. This idea was not well thought of. Turkey it will be. How about some fried oysters? Maybe some artichoke flan? NO mashed potatoes, no sauerkraut no rice pilaf-I want something a little different…what are you making? I’ll concede on the turkey but the rest is going to be different…

This year's menu will be different for us as well. We became vegetarians a few weeks ago so I have to rule out the turkey and the chicken and the ham... I guess that leaves us with sweet potatoes and broccoli and rice casserole :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, messing with tradition. That could be dangerous, you might rile the Mashed Potato and Gravy gods and end up with lumpy mashed potatoes AND gravy for the next 5 years. LOL
ReplyDeleteOur tradition for the last few years has been to go over to our daughter's house for the holiday meals. She tells us what to make and what to bring and it just works out best for her. She has 4 kids and there's not much for them to do at grandma's and grandpa's house. But then at their home it is like a 3 ring circus with a pool, a trampoline, pool table, dart board,basket ball hoop, big screen, plasma TV with practically every video game ever made and the list goes on and on and on. Then there's the 3 dogs, 5 cats, couple of hamsters, and 13 chickens ... the horse, Scooby Doo, is kept at nearby a stable. Did I mention 3 ring circus?
Oh, man, I'm sorry, but I could eat Thanksgiving dinner food every single day. I love turkey and dressing and mashed potatoes (no gravy) and green beans.
