Winter Rolls

Do you gain weight in the winter? I find that I am inside and on the couch far more often in the winter season. I love to bake on a cold and snowy day and the goods that are the result are hardly low fat or heart healthy. Think sour cream chocolate chip pound cake. Think gingersnaps and chocolate chunk cookies. Ham and oyster casserole, turkey tetrazinni, homemade soups and chili. With corn bread.

Right now I am feeling a little bit roly poly. The weight will come off once the garden begins but I am always a substantial size.

I want to hear from you “women of substance”. Do you gain in the winter? Do you care? If I had my way I would go into hibernation until the spring.

More Later,

  1. I do! But I decided to start to conquer it before Christmas and I have been riding my indoor bike since 12/24. Haven't missed a night yet!!

  2. I said to someone the other day, wouldn't it be fun to hibernate so we didn't have to deal with all these dark evenings and all the rain here in the NW, she agreed. (Thankfully or I would have felt like a complete idiot (He! He!)

I am always trying to lose weight but over the Holidays, Anni's, B.Days and vaca's I don't pressure myself, so that means that I don't really lose any weight at all :)

It is a cycle of reduce a few to gain a few (He! He!)

    Have a lovely Day, T. :)

  3. I think winter is a time when we are supposed to put on more flesh, helps insulate us against the cold northern air. Also with cold temps, hearty, heavy fixings such as franks in mac and cheese sounds so much more comforting than a mixed green salad with balsamic dressing.

I really like your three column blog. I've read instructions about how to create one, but it was like reading ancient Sanskrit. Couldn't understand a word of it. :(

  4. I gain weight in winter because I'm also baking A LOT! I bake things like pot pies; biscuits to go with soups, stews, and chowders; jalapeno-cheese dinner rolls to go with soups, stews, and chowders; pasties because they are loaded with meats and vegetables and caramelized onions; and the like. In the spring and summer I rarely bake at all unless I have to because the oven heats up the whole house.

  5. I tend to gain weight during each and every season. The problem is taking it off. Which I am working on. Again. LOL

  6. Hi!
Just thought I'd stop by and say hello.
You never call or write anymore. :---)
